Contrarian

If you throwed him in the river he'd float upstream.

Don't we ALL know somebody like this????  Someone who could argue the sky is blue????  This saying has put a very funny image in my head!

I worked on my club project for a while this evening-- I think I'm caught up to where I'm supposed to be. I am really pleased with how it is turning out-- I promise pictures soon.  I also worked on my table favors for State Day, they are almost done--- have to work on packaging tomorrow evening.  After club tomorrow I am going to see Sydnie, I know she needs to move, but I sure am going to miss her.

Looking forward to seeing Mary and Mdx on Sat for the Easter Egg Hunt. It is supposed to be a beautiful day.  Hopefully we'll have a good turn out.

Going to try to get some sleep so I can get moving in the morning.

Today is Tuesday

And the sun is shining. The weather report says it will be in the 80's by the end of the week!  I am ready for this!  The jonquils are blooming-- at least the ones the moles (or voles, or whatever those nasty things are) haven't gotten.  Unfortunately, we're not seeing any hostas-- that's a shame, last year we had so many, until the deer ate them-- GRRRRRRRR.

Today the calendar says... If you're talking about a man who dotes on his wife, you might say.....
He carries her on a silk pillow.

Working tonight and tomorrow night,  more later!

Monday, Monday

Not a very exciting day around here-- worked today then met Megan at the gym.  She had me doing legs and legs and legs and arms and core.  It was a good workout and I can't believe how much stronger I am than I was just a few months ago.

Got a haircut this evening-- not that I needed it-- haha-- and then spent some time in the studio working on my club project and table favors for State Day.  I think I'm just about caught up with my club project and made a lot of progress with my table favors.

Mike got the yard ready for the Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday this weekend.  We are hoping Mary comes with Mdx, I think she would really enjoy it this year.

Today's calendar saying is...  Honorable Man...
He plows straight and to the end of the row.

Wouldn't we all want others to see us as that man?

The weekend saying was... Perseverance...
She'll stick to it til the last pea is out of the pod.

That sound like one determined woman!!

I can't believe April begins on Thursday!  This year is flying by.

I think it's time for me to head for bed.......

TGIF

So glad today is Friday!  How 'bout you?  Not that I have any big plans for the weekend, but I'm off today, Sat and Sun.  I've got to finish my tote bag favors for State Day, catch up on my club project and get the club newsletter out by tomorrow.

It's another nice day-- a little overcast, but warm.

I can't believe I'm two days behind with my calendar again-- just can't seem to keep up--

Wed...  In a Hurry...
He left like he was holdin' a handful of fire.

Thurs...  If you've overeaten, you might say...
I've had more than plenty.

Today.... Sad...
I'm feelin' poorly and down in the mouth.

I like all three of these sayings-- I will file them all away, they are sure to come in handy in everyday conversation!

Here are a few more pictures from our trip to Virginia----

What a Windy Day!

It was cold this morning (39), then the sun came out, the temperature went up and the wind started!  There was just a news update about 4 houses that were destroyed by fire spread by the wind near where my friend Sydnie lives-- pretty scary stuff if you ask me.

Took an interesting class at work today-- about internal customer service--- makes you stop and think about things-- like how we all have to work together internally to give the best external customer service as possible.

After work I went to the gym again-- I walked 3 miles in 58 minutes 40 seconds.  I used a slight incline today (5.5%).  Not a record, but I stuck it out.  I'm a little sore today-- abs and shoulders, but even though I did a bunch of lunges and other leg stuff yesterday, my legs are good--- guess that means I'm making some progress!!  It feels good to feel good after a workout!

Chicken and asparagus for dinner, fruit salad for dessert and enough  leftovers to take for dinner tomorrow night!

Today's calendar---If you're referring to the time you chewed out someone, you might say...

I  preached his funeral.

I don't think this is one I would use-- not a fan of the funeral reference, but who knows, it may come in handy some day.

It's been a long day--- off to bed....

Lying

Tryin' to get away with a bad lie is like tryin' to put a wildcat in a burlap sack.

That sums it up pretty well, don't you think.

Had a busy day today-- early day at work,  then to the gym, then to Kroger for some vegetables and milk and stuff, then over to see my friend Sydnie for a bit.

Megan worked me pretty hard today-- lots of legs and some cardio and arms and abs.  I think I'm going to feel it in the morning!  I'm meeting her again Friday.

Still have some sunburn from being outside at the yard sale on Saturday-- yeah-- WAAH, WAAH, WAAH.  Hey, it's MY blog, I can cry if I want to!

Not much else going on around here-- back to work in the morning, then to the gym.  Then I need to finish my tote bag favors for State Day-hopefully, I can do that tomorrow evening.  I'm going to have to spend this weekend catching up with my club project-- I have wood to sand and stain and seal, just talking about it is making me tired!

Off to bed.....

What a Weekend!

We are back home after spending the weekend in Myrtle Beach with Marc and Kris!  They are both performing in the Atlantic Stage production of "Almost, Maine".  After they left for the theater Friday evening, we got some dinner then worked for a while getting stuff set up for the yard sale.

Saturday morning came WAY too early.  Mike was up at 5:30 and the rest of us at 6.  There were customers at the yard sale by 6:30-- the sun wasn't even up yet!  Kris' sister Tara was there along with their friend Melissa-Ann.  The 6 of us spent the day having a huge yard sale.  Most of the "merchandise" was from Kris and Tara's Mother's house.  We had 9 tables set up in the yard plus some pieces of furniture on the driveway and in the yard.  The sale was a big success, they took in just over $500.  We got the yard cleaned up and everything put away by about 2:30 and then it was nap time!  They are planning to post some of the furniture and the Lincoln on Craigslist and to have another sale in May (they still have things to bring down from Calabash).  If you are looking for a "new" car, I can tell you where you can get a 1997 Lincoln towncar with 99,5000 miles on it for a great price-- think about it.

After napping and showers all around, we headed to the theater.  The show was great!  The Atlantic Stage Company is a professional theater company started by faculty and friends of Coastal Carolina University.  This is their second season.  Last year we saw Marc in "The History of America (Abridged)" which was directed by Kris.  It has been a loooooong time since we have seen the two of them on stage in the same play.  (They didn't have any scenes together, but were both in the play).  The play was set in the town of Almost, Maine and told the stories of different townspeople falling in and out of love on a cold, wintry Friday night.  It was both funny and sad and some of the stories were a little too real.  We had a great time.  After the show, the 4 of us and Melissa-Ann and her friend Jeremy went to Gordon Biersch, a local pub where they play trivia.  It was happy hour (with March Madness in full swing, it is happy hour in the bar if there is a basketball game on).  We got back to their house about 12:30-- it was a late night after a long day--but we had a lot of fun!

This morning we all slept in-- OK, Mike got up at 7:30, but that IS sleeping in for him!  Kris and I made a quick trip to Kohls and we had some lunch.  Then it was time for them to go back to the theater for the matinee and we headed on home.  We do love spending time with our family and hope they feel the same about spending time with us.

I'm geading for bed-- early morning tomorrow, but first I've gotta catch up the calendar sayings...

Friday..  Stupidity...
If dumb were dirt, he'd be about an acre.
HAHAHAHAHAHA--I like it!

and the weekend...  Beautiful Woman..
She's the whipped cream on the cherry pie.
AHHHH, that's sweet!

Oh yeah, be sure to ask Kris about the "yard sale sign war" next time you talk to her!

I've Done It Again

Well, it didn't take me long to get behind on my southern sayings again!   Haven't done much but work this week-- and today was miniature club then training with Megan.

My work out today was quite a challenge-- this respiratory stuff has taken a toll on me!  I am so ready to be OVER this mess.

We did manage to fix ourselves a decent meal tonight-- grilled chicken, grilled asparagus and steamed broccoli.  Now we are both sitting here about to doze off--- I know, I know, you envy our exciting lifestyle.

So to catch up (AGAIN)----

Monday .. A Sweet Talker
She can talk the legs off a table.
I do believe this has probably been used to describe me!

Tuesday .. If you're referring to a person everyone likes but is lazy, you might say...
He's a good dog but he don't like to hunt much.

Wednesday ..  Little Girl
She's as cute as a bug in a rug and just as feisty.
If you could look this one up in a dictionary (or where ever you look up sayings) I know a little girl whose picture would be there!!  Anybody wanna guess who that might be?

And for today .. When describing a gut who laces his conversations with foul language, you might say....
His mouth ain't no prayer book.
And I can think of somebody else who could be the definition for this one, too!!!

OK, that's all I've got tonight---- I am going to get a dish of fruit and head on to bed-- I'm EXHAUSTED.

Calendar Catch Up

I've got a lot of catching up to do.  This cold really did a number on me-- and I'm ready to be done with it!

Tuesday....Speaking about a woman who is hard to please, you might say...

She's so persnickety she wouldn't be happy in a diamond mine.

I guess that is pretty persnickety!

Wednesday... Liar...
He lies so bad he has to hire someone to call his dogs.

It's pretty sad if your dogs don't even believe you!

Thursday...When referring to someone who is uppity, you might say...

She's the honey, but the bees don't know it.

Ahhhh..... a legend in her own mind!!!

Friday.... Serious Problem...
Now ain't this a fine howdy-do.

A sweet way to say what the......

and last but not least..... the weekend saying.... Stinginess...

He's so tight that when he blinks, his toes curl.

Well, that's probably enough for tonight.  I'll post some more pictures from the weekend later this week.

Good night!!!

How I Spent My Saturday Morning

We spent this weekend in Virginia with Mary and Mdx (Marshall is TDY in Mississippi).  Saturday, Mary had an orchestra event so Grandpa and I took Mdx to the Virginia Air and Space Museum. Take a look at some of the fun we had!

There was a special exhibit called "Grossology".  Mdx learned about LOTS of things-- like animal poop and slime and flies and smells.  I'm just glad she isn't any older and was satisfied looking at the big bugs and pushing the buttons at the displays.
Astronaut Grandpa-- Mdx did not want to put her head in the cut out.  She said "I don't want to be a astronaut".

Mdx talking to Mission Control
Every body has to buckle up before the plane takes off!  Mdx had lots of fun playing on the airplane and putting the seatbelts on and off and on and off and on and....           This is a submarine the children could play in.  There was a periscope with a camera that could be controlled by a wheel.  Grandpa went outside and waved to Mdx while she was driving.
There were a lot more activities going on at the museum-- a real astronaut was there answering questions about the space shuttle, a station to make parachutes, another station to make a bridge out of spaghetti, a robot demonstration and a radio controlled blimp to name a few!  The older children were having a blast with all the activities!  Mdx had fun and didn't want to leave, but it was time for lunch and definitely time for a nap.  When Grandpa put her in the car she said "I not happy, I don't like you".

We ate lunch when we got home, then it was time for a nap.  Mdx said she wasn't tired and did not need to go to sleep.  Mean Grandma said she had to go to sleep and closed her door.  A few minutes later I heard "Grandma, Grandma"  I went to the front room and this is what I saw at her door.....

Then she said "I have trash" and pushed a kleenex out under the door.    There were a few tears, then Grandpa went in and made her get back in bed.  She slept for 2 hours, and Grandpa slept about 30 minutes while he was watching the ACC games.
After naptime Grandpa went out to the garage and worked on Daddy's lawnmower and Mdx and I took a little walk and looked at the ducks in the water.   Then Mommy came home and we told her everything we did!

It was a lot of fun!

More of the Same Today

I've spent today moving from the bed, to the couch and back to the bed.  Still feeling pretty cruddy.  Tomorrow I promise an update, just too blah to do it tonight.
Wish me restful sleep!

I Think Today Was Tuesday....

Still feeling pretty cruddy today,  I need to get better so I can go see Mdx!!!  I have had my quota of cold medicine for the past 24 hours, now I just want to sleep.  I did manage to get a shower today and then went to Kroger for more cold medicine, but that is all I managed to do.  I was worn out when I got home and did get a bit of a nap this afternoon.

Think I'll leave the calendar update until tomorrow.

Off to try to sleep.....

Not Again......

So yesterday I had a sore throat all day.  Not too bad, just annoying.  And today, I woke up with a head full of snot AND a sore throat.  I didn't go into work and was thanked by my coworkers when I callled and told them.  I went back to bed until about 3 this afternoon.  I felt better when I got up, but am ready for more cold medicine now.  So, I didn't get much anything done today.

Today the calendar says.....Politicians.....
Some if them politicians are as crooked as a barrel of fishhooks.

That kind of says it all, don't you think?

Well, I'm going to eat a popsicle, get some cold medicine and go to bed.

Sunday, March 7, 2010

It's Almost Monday.....

Wow, this weekend just FLEW by!!! Hope it was a good one for you.

I worked Friday during the day.  After work, I stopped at Costco to pick up some things for last night, couldn't find ANYTHING I wanted, so I left there and stopped at JoAnn's then went on home.  I changed clothes then Mike and I went to Sam's, after consuming a "gourmet dinner" of a hotdog and tea (Mike had coke) at the Sam's cafe', we got the shopping done we needed, then went to Wal Mart for the last few things.  It was quite a night out for us!!!

Yesterday we got the house cleaned and prepared for supper club to come.  Our theme was March Madness, so we had everyone bring their favorite "game food".  I made a pot of meatballs and sauce and made meatball sandwiches.  I also had boiled shrimp and made some "homemade" salsa (a jar of salsa in the blender with cilantro added to it-- you think you're eating fresh salsa--try it sometime).  We had lots of food and everyone ate too much as usual!  The guys watched the Duke UNC game after we ate.   I did part of the dishes before I went to bed, then Mike finished up this morning.

I slept in this morning, boy did that feel good!  This afternoon I worked on tote bag favors for State Day.  I need to get them done this week--wish me luck with that!  I also have "homework" to get done for the Raleigh club.  I'm not sure that is going to get done, but I'm going to try!

Mike worked out in the yard this afternoon.  Keeping the yard clear of limbs, leaves and pine needles is an endless job.

I didn't post on Friday-- I was just a little busy--- but, Friday's saying sounded familiar to me-- could it be a repeat?  Well, I looked back and found that the subject is a repeat, but it has a different definition this time.  So here goes for Friday..... Brother-in-law
He's as useless as a milk bucket under a bull.

I guess that WOULD be pretty useless!

The weekend saying is...Country Bumpkin

He lives so deep in the backwoods he thinks asphalt is a butt disease.

That is pretty good for a laugh!  I'll have to keep that tucked away for future reference.

Well, tomorrow is "payroll Monday"  so I'll have to get in early.

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Hi There!

Today was a beautiful day here in Raleigh! The sun was shining brightly on my way home from work and it was hard to settle down and get some sleep before my busy afternoon started. I hope your day was as beautiful as ours was.

Marshall called today. Mary had an ultrasound yesterday and they're pretty sure there is a boy on the way! How exciting!!! Marshall said he was home because Mdx was sick and Mary had a Dr appt. I heard Mdx say in the background "I sick" and then I heard her say "when you coming Grandma", but Marshall said she said "I need cuddles". He can believe what he wants, but I staying with what I heard!

This afternoon started at miniature club. Work continued on our projects. As usual, I had everything with me, but basically just watched what was to be done and will work at my own pace here at home. That way I can "tweak" things along the way, such as restain the cut ends of wood, and let glue dry completely before moving on to the next steps. Guess I'm just a little anal about some things!

After miniature club, it was time to meet Megan at the gym. She had me doing a lot of legs again today and then a few new things with resistance bands, along with the usual lunges and step ups and squats and planks. It's not easy keeping up the pace on only 3 hours of sleep, but I did everything she wanted me to do. I am amazed at myself and how far I've come in the last year!

Now to catch up with the daily sayings......

Tuesday-- If someone is chewing you out, you might say...

Oh, don't get your tail up and stinger out!

Wednesday-- Unattractive...
He's so ugly he gets hired to haunt houses.

and today-- If you're talking about a person who acts as if he knows it all, you might say....

He thinks he's captain of the corn pile.

Time for bed, then off to work in the morning.......

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

Behind----again!

Good afternoon!!! I'm behind again, will catch up tomorrow evening.

Off to work again!

Monday, March 1, 2010

Complainer

He's so ungrateful, he'd gripe with a ham under each arm.

I know sometimes this can be used to describe me!  and a whole lot of other folks I know.

Worked today, then hit the gym on my way home.  I did 20 minutes on the elliptical-- my feet were asleep when I finished, then I moved on to the treadmill and walked 1.5 miles-- the last half mile I slowed down a bit, but moved up to 5% incline.

Talked to Cheri on my way home from the gym.  She and Alan got a "new" dog on Friday.  Unfortunately, the poor guy has heartworms.  The shelter neuters and microchips the dogs, but doesn't do a heartworm test- am I missing something??????  She found a vet to work with Hal (Cheri says that's short for halitosis).  Waiting for pictures of him!

I put chicken breasts in the oven when I got home, then sauteed onions and garlic, added cut up chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, angel hair pasta and asparagus I had roasted in the oven.  And there are some leftovers for me to either eat before work tomorrow or take for for my dinner--decisions, decisions!

OK, the weather is on--- MORE SNOW????????? What in the world is going on around here.  We could get 1-3 inches tomorrow night and it will be 70 by Monday????????????  Guess I'm sounding like that Complainer guy I described earlier.

I'm off to bed....
