Thoughts...........

Here we are at the end of yet another year............ time flies, life goes on and there is nothing we can do to slow it down.

Hope everyone had a great holiday--- and has safe plans for tomorrow night.

One of my Christmas gifts was a calendar with a different southern saying for every day of the year.  I have been challenged by one of my daughter-in-laws (and seconded by another) to use the phrase of the day each day and then write a post about the saying and how I used it.  At least I THINK that was the challenge-- if not, please set me straight Mary!  Now, I'm not sure I'll be able to post every day, but I know I'll check each day's saying and do my best to use it at some point during that day.  And, I can guarantee if the saying has anything to do with using "polite" language instead of a curse word, I will commit it to memory and use it every chance I get!

Another special gift I received was from our d-i-l Kris and her sisters.  They had a rough fall and have been going through their mother's house preparing it to be sold.  As they were sorting, they came across a set of 3 international Santas that have been in their family for many years. Knowing I collect Santas, they decided to make me the guardian of the Santas.  I promise to love them and display them proudly each year.  Thank you girls!

We enjoyed having most of our family with us.  We missed you Mason and Jennie!  I pray for many many more holidays spent with my family.

I bought myself a laptop on Monday--- still getting use to the keyboard and such-- I keep hitting (obviously) wrong buttons and deleting emails and losing other things.  And I have to learn to set up my favorites and such.

Went to the gym today and trained with Megan.  Is there REALLY an exercise called "skull crushers" or did she just make that up (thinking that was what I would probably do)?

Did some grocery shopping this afternoon, then came home and made a pot of vegetable soup and a pot of sloppy joes and chicken in salsa.  I have to work this weekend so I wanted to have some quick food available that is kind of good for me.

Off to bed, meeting Sydnie and Sylvia for lunch tomorrow.  I think we are going to the Tea Room in Wake Forest-- haven't been there in a loooooooong time-- I'm sure it will be fun!

Happy New Year everyone...................be safe!

Christmas Wishes

Hope you are just about ready for Christmas--- I know I'm as ready as I'm going to be----and I'm sure we're going to have a wonderful time! The trees are decorated, gifts wrapped and cookies are baked.  Menus are in process and grocery stores will be open or we'll just have to make do with what is in the house.

The Myrtle Beach crew will be here Thursday--- along with "the girls"  Ellie and Bailey, who will be staying with "Grampa and Gramma" for the week. The Virginians will be here Fri evening with Mdx and Macy.  SO, we'll be 6 adults, 1 two year-old and 5 dogs!  Wish we could see our Arkansas kids, but we did get to be with them for a week this summer.

After work tomorrow (today, actually) I'm meeting Megan at the gym, then will TRY to get the grocery list finished and get out to the store.  I have to work Wed and Thurs nights, but then am off for the weekend!

Once Christmas is over, I need to get serious in the studio and catch up on my club project and some of my other UFO's.

Merry Christmas!!!

Where Have I been?

Mostly working and sleeping, actually.

Had a great visit with the VA contingent of the family!  Enjoyed playing with Mdx and seeing how much she has grown.  It was so wonderful to see Marshall, it's hard to believe he'd only been home 3 weeks from his deployment in Iraq.  It seems like months since he called me to tell me he was home.  Mary is going to a "Tacky Christmas Sweater Party", if she doesn't win with the sweater she borrowed from me, there is no justice in this world!

The inflatables are up in the yard-- now "we" (me) have to get the inside done.  That is my plan for this week and weekend-- after being on call tonight (Tues) and working Wed night, then doing an 8 hour shift on Thur and Fri.  Oh yeah, I want to bake this weekend too.  Well, I'll be sure and update my progress!

I'm working with a new trainer at the gym.  Sadly, Sarah's schedule no longer allows her to train with clients.  Today Megan had me doing arms and back and then SURPRISE--- I got to do planks!!

Well, if I have any thoughts of achieving anything productive this morning, I better get some sleep.

Sweet dreams...................................

My How Time Flies......

This week has completely flown by.......

Got home late Sunday evening from the Philadelphia Miniature show.  It was a lot of fun, had a great time and was REALLY, REALLY, REALLY bad in sales room.  I worked Mon night (got to flex down around 11) and Tues night, then was on call Wed night (got called in until 9:30) and then worked in the office Thurs and Fri.  I finally got to the gym this afternoon, I'm sure I'm gonna feel it in the morning!

This evening, Mike and I went to Bahli Hai--- YUM YUM--- love that Chinese Mongolian grill!!!  Between our travels and work, tonight was only the second night in the last 2 weeks we've eaten together.  We made a real night of it, after eating we went to Costco, we really know how to have an exciting Fri night!

If you've followed the weather, you know it has been raining in our neck of the woods.  In VA, Mary and Marshall have had water up to their front porch, no water got into the house, but it sounds like they had some leaks from what was coming out of the sky.  Hopefully, the rain from Ida will be over soon and they can get their lives back to normal soon.

Tomorrow is UPS day.  I love play dates!  I've got all the treasures I bought last weekend packed to go for Show and Tell.  I wasn't very successful shopping for my friends, but was able to get some of the things on their lists.  I'm anxious to see what the others bought at the show, hope they come prepared for show and tell too!

Tomorrow evening we are going to a pig pickin'.  Looking forward to some pork!!!

Sunday I need to get some housework done-- BORING-- and laundry.  Maybe I'll get something out of the freezer and fix some cool weather food-- although, it is supposed to be 75 degrees on Sunday.  Then Monday it will be back to work.

I need to spend some time making up a menu for Thanksgiving-- guess I'd better find a turkey soon, too.  Any suggestions are welcome!

Off to bed so I can get up and play tomorrow..... sleep well......

Please try not to be too jealous of my exciting life!

Playin' Around

Just playin' around with my blog-- since Marshall is now on his way home, I no longer need to know what time it is in Iraq!  It felt really good to delete that clock!

Off to the Philadelphia Miniaturia Show early Thursday morning.  This is the first BIG show I'm going to-- I have a couple of  things in mind to look for and shopping lists from 3 friends, but am really excited to have the chance to go with a couple of really good friends.  Sydney and I are taking a class on Friday with Betsy Neiderer and I am taking a class to learn some techniques to use the drill press.

Need to go try to get some sleep--

Exciting News

Couldn't sleep (again) last night-- something pulled me to the computer-- and that's when I got the message "Hey Im in Qatar"--- #3 son is on his way home after 6 and a half months in Iraq-- Thank God!! I know Mary is probably beside herself knowing he is really on his way back home--

Off to work with a spring in my step!

BOO!

Another successful Halloween party at the McIntyre's!!

"We" pulled it off again-- the 2009 Annual Byrum Woods Halloween Party is now history!! The board members did 99.9% of the work-- all I had to do was open the garage door and smile!  The guys did the shopping, set-up, cooking and everything was cleaned up by 6:30 (1830 if you use military time).  I put the vinyl tablecloths in the washer and had 3 pairs of tongs and 2 cookie sheets to wash!  So Mike, it's not that we didn't miss you being here, but we were able to do it without you this year-- the board members may feel a little differently, but don't leave me with this again--OK?

Talked to my sisters this evening-- Lisa has some kind of nasty respiratory stuff going on- she sounded awful and is going back to the doctor on Monday-- hope she has a speedy recovery!

Cheri should write a book-- I think she is a magnet for the extraordinary (trying to be nice, but she does tend to attract a lot loony stuff).  Last night she and her husband and stepson were headed to the church for the annual "trunk or treat".  It was raining, so the car decorations were cancelled, but the show must go on for the kids.  Cheri was in her car and Alan and Ricky were in his car behind her (if they weren't needed, they were going to leave Cheri and she would need a ride home).  Anyway, Cheri saw an accident happen that turned out to be a result of road rage.  Alan and Ricky didn't see the accident happen, but had to stop with  the traffic.  One of the cars started smoking and Alan pulled  the driver out of his car before it started burning-- so, after they gave statements to the police, Cheri went on to the church, but Alan was covered in blood that was NOT a Halloween costume, so he and Ricky headed back home.  Such is life in the big city of Loganville!

Waiting to hear that #3 son is on his way home from Iraq--- he is packed and on standby for his orders.  We pray for his safe and uneventful return to American soil.  I know he is anxious to be reunited with his wife and daughter.  We will do our best to patiently wait our chance to see again.

Don't forget to "fall back" tonight.......love to all!

Just for the Record

I did find the site I THOUGHT had the directions I was looking for, but the instructions were for painting bricks not stones.  So, I sent a note to the "paint guru" in our miniature club and will wait with baited breath for her reply.  In the meantime, I'm off to bed and hopefully some deep sleep!

What Do You Think of This One?

So, I guess I have more time on my hands than I think I do--- or I just get really sidetracked, really easily and don't get done what I am supposed to be doing (like right now-- I got on to find instructions to paint DAS clay to look like stone-- and I'm off again!)

Anyway, I had some more fun tonight and am much happier with this layout!

The author of one of the other blogs I read refers to "the six year-old in me"-- I'm pretty sure my six year-old self is the prominent personality most of the time!

I did get to the gym again today-- I walked a mile, did some arm stuff, biked 3 miles and then did some curls standing on the BOSU and ended doing bridges using the BOSU (there was not a step in the Pilates room and I didn't feel like tracking one down {six year-old again}).

Well, I'm outta here to look for those painting instructions..... later...

A New Look

Just playing around tonight-- will probably do some more experimenting with the "decor"--- mainly just wanted to see if I COULD do it.

Had a great workout with Sarah today!  Lots of abs and legs-- I'm going to do arms tomorrow and walk after work.  Seems like no matter how blah I might feel when I start, I'm always invigorated when we're done.  I try my best to do everything she has planned, but that doesn't stop me from whining about it!

The rest of the week is really busy--- on call Thurs night and working Fri night.  Then we are hosting the neighborhood Halloween Party (5th or 6th year) on Saturday--- oh and Mike will be in Florida!  So "we" is ME -- thanks Mike!!!!

Last night Mike got the yard decorations up-- 8 inflatables and a motion activated ghoul.  Well, about 1:30 I heard what I thought were dogs barking outside, but----- I looked out the front window and and saw green flashing lights and realized I wasn't hearing dogs--- it was that doggone ghoul cackling and yelling "did you come for a treat or did you come for a trick?".  So, I put on my dog walking clogs and my raincoat (did I mention it was raining?) with the hood up and go out to bring the blasted thing in -- don't want to agitate the neighbors any more than absolutely necessary and Christmas is coming-- just wait!  Good thing nobody drove by or I'm sure a sheriff's deputy would have been at the door.

Well, off to bed.......sweet dreams!

Well......Not so Much

Yesterday morning our daughter in law's mother lost her fight and is no longer in pain.  Our prayers go out to Nancy's daughters and granddaughter.  We know it is a difficult time for them, but also know they are strong women and understand their mother and grandmother will now be at peace.  We know they have lots of happy memories of their mother.

Today, I woke up feeling all achy and chilled--- been in bed most all day and am heading back there now...

I Get to Play Again Tomorrow!!

I am so lucky--- 3 play dates in 6 days!!!  Tomorrow morning I'm going to visit my friend Sydnie and we get to play!  Yesterday I got to play with Mary and Sat was yet another playdate.  It has been a long time since I got this much play time.

Met with Sarah at the gym yesterday-- she might have promised no pull-ups, but she knows alot of OTHER exercises that have the word UP in them!  I did push ups and planks and step ups and step up and overs (thanks Nikki)  and and  and......  I was pretty tired when we finished, but it felt good-- and I really feel like I'm getting stronger, I'm not totally immobilized the next day like I used to be!  I may never have "abs of steel" but I'm working on "quads of steel"!  So far I've also walked 3 miles and biked 2 miles this week-- I'm going to the gym in the am before going out to Sydnie's-- not sure what I'm going to do, but-- I'll make it good.

Tomorrow evening, it's just me and the dogs so I'll probably spend some time plowing a path through my studio.  I'm trying to get my UFO's (unfinished objects) in order so I know what I have and what I "need" to complete some projects.

Please continue to keep my daughter in law's mother, Nancy, and her family in your thoughts and prayers, her prognosis is grim and they need all the positive thoughts and energy we can send their way.  We love them all and wish we could wrap them in our arms and take away the pain and hurt they feel.

Blessings..........

I am OFF tomorrow!!!!!

I worked 8 hours today-- it was payroll Monday, so had to get everyone's "time sheet" double checked-- make sure any premiums were added and time off entered.  (Can you still call it a time sheet if it is on the computer and there is no papaer involved?)  Then did a few other things for my manager.

After work I was off to the gym.  I walked 3.15 miles in an hour then did some work on arms and legs.  I remembered to stretch before I left, but I'm sure I'm still gonna feel it in am.   I'm meeting Sarah at 5:30 tomorrow (or technically today since it is after midnight),  I'm betting she will have some challenges planned for me!  (Sarah, if you are reading this, it is NOT an invitation to add more pull-ups and leg lifts, remember, I am still in a delicate state. {haha})

Going to go play miniatures later with Mary and work on our wine cellar from State Day.  The plan is to get the electricity in the box.  We'll see how that goes-- electricity is not my friend.

Talked to #1 son in Myrtle Beach this afternoon.  His mother-in-law is in the hospital and not doing well.  She had surgery Friday and remains in ICU still not out of the anesthesia and fears that her kidneys are shutting down.  Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers, they need strength during the this time of uncertainity (her name is Nancy if you'd like to put a name to your prayers).

Try to stay healthy-- there's a lot of stuff going around out there and some of it is pretty nasty.

Yesterday was a Good Day-- Today, pretty Lazy

Spent yesterday playing with some of my "mini friends".  It was my turn to host.  I made Tortellini soup for lunch.  Also had hummus (store bought) and black bean salsa and garlic bread.  I also made a pumpkin pie for dessert-- found something this group doesn't really care for-- that's OK, Sydnie and I enjoyed it!

I got one of my Raggedy Ann doll kits made except for her hair-- she really turned out cute!  Didn't get much else done, but just enjoyed being with friends-- no stress no deadlines.  After we ate Mike came in and had some soup, then he cleaned up the kitchen (I had just stacked the dishes in the sink).  I am soooo spoiled!

We enjoyed the soup so much, Mike and I had it again for dinner.  Good thing I had made a double batch, but so much for having soup leftover for lunch this week!

Today, I had thoroughly intended to get up and go to church, but I overslept-- next thing I knew it was 1pm. So after I dragged myself downstairs and took the dogs out, I came back up and sat at the computer for a while.  I sent the soup recipe to my friends and some other things I had promised to forward to a couple of people.  Then I started the laundry and went out to the studio for a while.

I decided to work on my club project for a while.  I needed to frame the window--well let's just say,  it didn't go as expected, so I had to dig around the "lumberyard" and find some more wood and stain it. GRRRR--then I figured it was time for dinner and time to take a break before I really did break something!

Got my last load of clothes in the washer-- gonna get my gym stuff together so it's ready in the morning-- I'll go after work. Planning to walk and do some arms.

Going to play miniatures again on Tuesday with Mary and Thursday with Sydnie-- I'm a lucky "girl" this week!!

Counting down the days til #3 son gets home from Iraq!

Off to check the dryer-- later......

Here It Is-- the Evidence from the Heart Walk

Here we are before the walk started.  There were over 1100 people registered to walk last Saturday. This is on the way back to the car after we finished!  And we REALLY did finish--- the whole 2 laps around the lake-- Mike and I even took a few minutes to talk with a couple (not part of the Heart Walk) who were walking a greyhound that looked just like our Rae.

Thanks to all who supported us and donated to the American Heart Association!

Back to Real Life

Well, I'm back to work tonight and tomorrow night, then office time on Weds and Fri-- it's time to go back to real life!

Still waiting for #1 son to post pictures from the Heart Walk!

Time to shower and eat before work......later........

Heart Walk is History

This morning was the Heart Walk. We put on our Coastal Carolina University T-shirts and headed over to the Market Common (formerly known as the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base). The walk was lead by the CCU marching band-- at least for the first couple of hundred feet! The route was around the commons area then crossed the street and was SUPPOSED to be two laps around the lake-- most people only did one lap because there was no way everyone was walking faster than Mike and me. We did the entire 2 laps and were the last ones back, but it was only a little over an hour when we finished, so we're very confident we walked the entire 5K.

Afterwards, we went back to the house and showered then to Broadway on the Beach for the Italian Festival. Nap time followed and now #1 d-i-l and I are headed to Kohl's-- because they are having a sale!!

Later we are going to Tavern on the Forest to eat and play bar trivia.

More details and pictures later... gotta go the dogs got out

Oh yeah, almost NO PAIN today!!!!!!

Thursday, October 8, 2009

Can You Say BOOOOOORRRRRING?

Not much new--- still spending a lot of time in a drug induced stupor. Talked to a nurse at the dr office this morning. She said the pain is to be expected, she will call me back later about refilling my prescription and possibly something non-narcotic so I can go back to work. (Advil is NOT going to do it) I'm only sleeping about 3 hours at a time and have been waking up about between 4 and 4:30 in the morning in a lot of pain.

We are still planning to go to Myrtle Beach tomorrow. The Heart Walk is Saturday. Mike has said he will walk at my pace. I feel like I can do the walk-- just will take it slow.

Weds afternoon my "baby" brother became a grandpa! Charleigh Anne was born about 2:30 and weighed 8# 3 oz! Baby and Mom are coming home today!

I'm going to try to get a little bit of work done in my studio today-- no power tools or X-acto knives though! Gotta get caught up for miniature club next week.

Well, time to get a shower and take some more pain medicine.

Later.....

Monday, October 5, 2009

Still Hurting

Spent Sunday and today mostly propped in the recliner-- it hurts to put pressure where the rash is on my back. Still taking pain medicine around the clock which makes me pretty sleepy. I kept nodding off today while trying to do the puzzles from the paper. Hoping tomorrow I may be a little more coherent and might be able to spend some time in my studio.

This is a picture that our new miniature club project:

So far, we have marked the walls and put gesso on them to simulate plaster and stained and laid the wood floor. I have to get busy and paint my walls so I will be ready for club next week. We are going to work on the window and the floor in the hall area.

"Talked" via IM with #3 son in Iraq for a few minutes tonight. He is counting down the days until he comes home.

We are still planning to do the Heart Walk in Myrtle Beach this weekend. I will just take it easy and maybe re-evaluate my goal to finish in less than an hour. I don't think I'll get to the gym this week--it's too uncomfortable having fabric rub against the rash-- but hopefully it will be more dried up by Saturday.

I'm heading to bed and hope to sleep all night.......

Poor, poor me

This past week was pretty hectic-- I worked last weekend, was off Monday night, worked Tues night, did 8 hours of office time Weds from 3p-11p and was on call Thurs night-- I had had an itchy place on my back for several days and on Wed felt like my arm and side were chafing. On Thur I saw a rash on my back where the itching was. I got called into work about 2am, when I got to work I asked one of my co-workers to look at my back- -she said "I think you have shingles". So, then everyone had to take a look including one of the docs. They all said it was shingles and go home. Fri morning I called my MD for an appointment and guess what-- I have shingles. Long story short-- I am now on Valtrex and have Vicodin for pain and per the PA, I can't work until the rash is healed. I called employee health and was told I CAN work if the rash is completely sealed with a bandage and I wear 2 layers of clothing. I am having a hard time imagining putting a bandage on this rash and then wearing 2 layers of clothing. But, more important, I can't imagine going 12 hours with no pain medicine at this point, so I think I'll probably be taking off at least part of this coming week.

All that being said, I really don't feel that bad. A co-worker got married today and I had told her and her mother (also a co-worker) I would take care of the kitchen during the reception (held in their backyard). We talked after my diagnosis yesterday and decided I would still plan on helping and would use my judgement as to how much I would/could do. I took my pain med with me and stayed medicated (but not too medicated). It was a lovely reception, the weather was perfect, the food was great (prepared by the mother of the bride) and the kitchen was clean when everything was over! I was pretty uncomfortable when I got home and took my pain med right away. I think I overdid it today --- I'll rest tomorrow.

The Heart Walk is next Saturday-- looking forward to going to Myrtle Beach next weekend. Thanks to all who have made donations.

Off to bed, hopefully sleep will come quickly. Later.....

The Time is Nigh

12 days until the AMA 5K walk--- still hoping for some more donations.

Worked all weekend-- busy, busy, busy on Fr and Sat nights, Sun night was NIIICE.

Went to the gym this afternoon and worked out with my trainer--- I was tired, but worked as hard as she asked me to. Even did push ups! I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow, but it's a good sore.

Got a crazy schedule this week, so don't expect to have much play time--

I'm helping a friend on Sat with her daughter's wedding-- going to help keep platers full and dishes done at the reception.

Later....

One More Thing

15 days until the heart walk --- please consider a donation.

Thanks!

Two Days Off-- Back to Work Tomorrow

I thoroughly enjoyed my two consecutive days off. I got a haircut and made some prints of pictures to give as gifts. Had my work out with Sarah-- now I just need to remember all the things we did the next time I go to the gym. She is really stepping it up with my workouts.

Today I visited my friend Mary, we are trying to finish our States Day projects from this year and last year. We actually made some progress today-- didn't technically get anything done, but have some definite plans for the projects. Then I came home and did 2 loads of laundry (sheets and tablecloths). I also laid the floor for the current club project-- I have a little bit of tweaking to on it, but I'm happy with the outcome. I promise some pictures soon.

Well, its late and I'm tired.........later

Really, Seriously.....

The heart Walk is in less than 3 weeks--- please think about making a donation! This is my first time ever to do something like this and I'm excited to do it!

Follow This Link to visit Kris' web page - then click on team members to see my name and help me in my efforts to support American Heart Association - Myrtle Beach, SC

I've stepped up my training in the past 2 weeks and feel confident I can do it in less than an hour- today I did 2 miles on the elliptical in 29 min 20 sec. Then I moved to weights and did some balance work and lunges. I meet with my trainer tomorrow afternoon-- I'm sure Sarah will have some fun and games planned!

I know this may be hard to believe since I tend to write a lot about my "gym experiences", but we really do have a life around here!

Last night we had a wonderful visit with Mike's Uncle and Aunt from Baltimore. They were on their way home from attending a reunion of his ship in Myrtle Beach. We had a nice dinner (Mike grilled steaks and veggies) and then Al showed us pictures he took this summer on his trip to Germany. They had to leave early this morning to get home and get ready to leave again for Illinois. They will be visiting Jane's daughter and family in Peoria and then heading south to visit with the southern Ill family. Wish we could have had a longer visit with them, but understand they have places to go and people to see.

I actually have tomorrow and Thursday OFF!!! Tomorrow I am planning to get a haircut then grab a few groceries and get some pictures printed. I'm planning to spend the afternoon in my studio working on miniature projects (until it's time to go to the gym). Thursday my plan is to get the newsletter done for the miniature club and head back out to the studio. I'll have to do a little laundry, but I will still have time to play!!!

Mike is heading to Maryland this weekend. His folks and sister are having a yard sale and he's going to help them. I have to work Fri, Sat and Sun nights so I'll be home with the dogs-- well, technically, they will be home and I'll be coming in and out to see to their needs and get some sleep.

Well, off to bed so I can get up and accomplish the goals I've set for tomorrow. Think about donating to the American Heart Association. Nite All.......

Myrtle Beach Heart Walk

Yes-- I am going to do it! I will be walking a 5K on Sat Oct 10th to support the American Heart Association.

My first goal is to finish the walk-- I don't think that will be an issue as I walk 2-3 miles at the gym 2-3 times a week.

My second goal is to finish in under an hour-- at the gym, my usual speed is 3.4 mph, so I think this is completely obtainable (is that a real word-- don't really care, I like it!).

If you had asked to even consider doing this a year ago, I'd have fallen off my chair laughing hysterically and dropping my "bonbons"-- but this is a new year and a sorta new me. I haven't completely given up "bonbons", but am trying to be better about my food choices and taking more responsibility for my well-being. Speaking of which, I'm out of here in a few minutes to meet my trainer this afternoon.

If you are so motivated, I have a link on my facebook page to make an online donation to the American Heart Association. If you're not into facebook, email me or leave a comment and I will send you the info to make a donation!

Thanks!

Birthday Weekend!

We've had a crazy birthday weekend and the last of our guests will leave in the morning. The house is already really quiet and I miss the excitement of having my house full of family and friends. The refrigerator is still full even though there were plenty of groceries consumed over the past 3 days. Tomorrow will be back to work and laundry and all the other stuff that goes with life in the real world.
Enjoy some pictures from our weekend-- we missed all our family and friends who couldn't be with us, but we thought of you as we celebrated.

Blowing out the candle

YUM--- I love cupcakes-- good thing Mommy took my dress off before I got my hands on it!

Yes, one must wear all the contents of the dress up box at the same time!
"My stroller"

Is this possibly another birthday girl-- or a new player for the Steelers?
You decide!

Catching Up....

Getting ready for family to come this weekend-- Mdx turned 2 last week and we are having a birthday party here on Sunday. Looking forward to everyone being here and hoping the weather is nice.

Met with my trainer today--- we did lots of arm work-- machines and dumb bells. Ended by doing 30 pull/chin ups with 130# of counterweight. I had warmed up walking on the treadmill-- I did 1.5 miles in 28 minutes. I wasn't pushing myself really hard-- will walk again tomorrow and do standing crunches.

Went to the Durham Bull's game Saturday night--- it took them until the bottom of the 14 inning with 2 outs, 3 balls and 2 strikes to finally win. After the games there were fireworks-- we got home about 1 AM.

Tomorrow is the Miniature Club's annual luncheon. We are meeting at Carino's at 1-- I'm sure Sarah (my trainer) would NOT approve of this choice, but I won't tell her if you don't. Then I have grocery shopping to do and a few errands to run.

Off to bed so I can (hopefully) get an early start......Later......

New Trainer

I met with my new trainer, Sarah, today at the gym. I have a feeling she is going to kick my butt! We started out by talking about what I had been doing with the previous trainer and what I had been doing on my own. Then we went out on the floor and she had me doing different exercises so she could get an idea of where I am now.

I started on the counter balance machine with 160 lbs. I did 15 pull-ups, then Sarah took 10 lbs off and I did 15 more on each of the other 2 hand grips. Then she had me rest and she took off some more weight-- 20 lbs. I did 5 more pull-ups, then she showed me the machine was set at 130 lbs! So she actually took off 30 lbs total! After the pull-ups we moved to the captains chair for leg lifts, then onto the bosu ball for bicep curls and presses and triceps extensions (8 lb dumbbells today). Did some wall squats and lunges with the balance ball, then ended with her stretching me. It felt great! I really need the "nudges" to push myself further and further.

So son (you know which one I mean), I may just be able to do one pull-up without any counter weight by the time you get home!

Computer Genius!

This is especially for my boys---- but others may also be amazed!

After miniature club yesterday, I stopped by my friend Mary's house. We visited for a while. She said she was having trouble with her internet and her grandson had made the high school football team and hadn't been able to come over and fix it for her. She asked if I could look at it for her--- I'm thinking-- UMMMM-- yea right---I'm a computer genius----so I sat down at her computer and clicked on the internet explorer icon and got an error message. Turns out I AM a computer genius (at least in her eyes)! Her modem was lying on the floor (don't ask me why), I picked it up and saw the standby light was was on, so I pressed the power button and TADA- "fixed" her internet-- she thinks I'm wonderful!!!!

OK-- pick yourselves up off the floor and stop laughing, we aren't all as techno savvy as the rest of you. At least I didn't start out calling one of you to ask for help and get put on speaker phone so everyone in the office could hear (you know who you are).

I am off to the gym (if I write it here then I HAVE to go). I am meeting a new trainer on Monday-- my former trainer left the gym and I still have some sessions left on my contract.

Home again, home again

Home from a busy week in AR and back to work today. I have lots of pictures to post, but have to down load them first. Also took some video-- have to download quicktime player so I can see them on this computer.

Off to bed for tonight-- have to be in at 1500 (3PM) for a meeting and then stay to staff 7P shift.

I'm Still Here!

Had a great visit with #1 son and dil this past weekend. VA dil and granddaughter are coming Fri and the four of us are heading to AR for a week.

Not much else going on--- working and getting ready to leave.

Making Some Progress

Got to the gym just after it opened this morning. Walked my usual 3 miles, then did 4 sets/ 10 reps of triceps pull downs (with 20#). After that I headed over and did 25 standing crunches (with 50#), then 15 pull ups on the assisted pull up/chin up machine (with 160#), then 50 more standing crunches followed by 15 more assisted pull ups (with 145# this time), back for 25 more crunches then 15 more pull ups (still with 145#). Then it was in to the room with dumb bells-- I did 3 sets/10 reps (7# dumbbells)each of bicep curls, triceps something or other, and I think the last one is called a military press (but that's probably not the right term) while standing on the Bosu ball (half ball you balance on). Lastly, I did 3 sets/15 reps each on the abductor and abductor machines (with 100#).

When I got home, I picked 3 small tomatoes and one banana pepper out at the "farm". Lunch was a tomato sandwich with Duke's mayonnaise-- the only appropriate condiment!

Mike was busy painting the guest room and I started "redding up" the house. We've just finished for the day and are going to make pizza for dinner then sit and relax this evening. Hopefully, it won't take us too long tomorrow to get the rooms back together. Then we can move on to some other projects we need to get done.

To #3 son--- I DID turn my words into actions today, you smart aleck!

Hope your day has been full of sunshine! Later.......

We Got Peppers!

Took a stroll around the "farm" this morning when I got home from work-- well, really just ambled over to the far side of the house-- and saw we have about a half dozen banana peppers growing! One of them will probably ready to pick in the next day or two!! And it looks like there will be some green peppers starting soon. Now if we can just keep the critters out!

We're planning to spend the weekend painting the front bedroom (that is the royal "we" as in Mike will be painting...) and then getting the rooms back together. My task will be getting the rest of the house cleaned.

We're looking forward to seeing the Myrtle Beach kids next weekend-- now if I can just get someone to cover my on call shift next Saturday night--- I've been working on it, but no luck so far. I'm not giving up though!

Talked to my "baby" brother last night-- he is having some trouble with one of his toes and is getting some neuropathies in his feet. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers that his toe heals and he will not have to have surgery.

VA dil moved last weekend and has been busy unpacking. She had lots of help with the move, which was a good thing. I hope she is settling in and getting things unpacked.

We will be heading to AR in a couple of weeks. They SAY they are looking forward to seeing us, but I think they are more excited to spend time with Mdx. Oh well, that's OK, I'm sure she'll be happy to see them too and maybe get a little bit of spoiling from her uncle and aunt!

I'm off to bed so I can get up and go to the gym this afternoon and be back and showered by 5ish so we can go get the paint for this weekend's project-- hmm and maybe some dinner too?

More 'Maters

We've got some tomatoes ripening and it looks like we may get some banana peppers after all. The green peppers are starting to come back too. I just hope the deer have had their fill of my veggies! I used some of the parsley last night to make shrimp scampi for dinner-- it was REALLY good! Not much else going on except work, work, work-- but I'm more then grateful to have the work and regular paycheck. If somebody knows what I'm doing wrong that I can't make paragraphs-- please help-- I'm not so literate on this machine. Which isn't very reassuring that I have been volunteered to learn the new changes in our computer system at work and then teach the new changes to others! More later.......

Busy, busy, but doing what?

I feel like I've been going 100 miles an hour, but can't exactly say what is occupying my time. It certainly hasn't been spending time at the gym! I've worked 28 hours so far this week- work again tonight and am on call Saturday night, so I guess that accounts for a good portion of this week. Yesterday morning I ate the first tomato from the "farm" I don't think it was completely ripe, but it came off the vine when Mike was watering Tuesday night and I just HAD to make a tomato sandwich out of it. There is another tomoato ripening, so hopefully I'll have another mater sandwich soon! Well, since I woke up at 3this morning, I'd probably better try to get a little more sleep since it will be tomorrow morning before I'll get another chance for some shut eye! Have a great day! Not sure what is going on with blogger this morning, but it is not letting me make new paragraphs- -sorry for the blob this blog entry turned into!

I Did It!

OK-- ACLS is OVER!!!!! And yes, I did pass, but it wasn't easy. I walked in to the practice code today and drew a complete blank-- I had to be walked through the whole thing. The test code was easier, but the instructor tripped me up when she asked if I would give a particular drug, I said no, it is only given as the first or second dose and I had already given 2 doses of another drug. She said, well the other drug wasn't working, so it was at least worth a try-- she apologized later for the confusion, but it had been pounded into our heads the last 2 days, only to use that drug for the first or second dose (OK-- I did forget about using that drug, but, remembered not to use it for a third dose).

The written test was a breeze--- I did miss one question, but it was a dumb mistake-- identified the strip incorrectly because I read too much into it. BUT-- the other L&D team leader and I made higher scores than the MD and the ICU nurse who were in our group!!!

We went back up to the floor and finished some office work we had neglected all week and were on our way home before 3pm.

I stopped at the gym-- walked 2 miles, but just wasn't feeling it. I was hoping to walk off some of the stress, but it wasn't happening. So I left, went home and took a shower then went and got a pedicure. My toes are now "patent leather" and I feel quite pampered after the hot rock leg and foot massage.

I have a play date tomorrow with some mini friends. I promise some pictures of miniatures soon.

Have a great weekend!!!

One Day Down

The first day of ACLS is over! It wasn't as bad as I had imagined, I got 100% on the rhythm strip test. Tomorrow there is a test and we have to run a mock code-- meaning-- we will be given a scenario and will direct our team in treating the patient.

So, I'm off to study my notes from today.........

Not Much New

Not much going on around here--- I worked all weekend and have the dreaded ACLS class tomorrow and Friday. I've been reading the manual, don't know how much I'm retaining, but hope it will be enough.

Mike is in Charlotte today and tomorrow, and then going to visit VA dil on Friday. He's going to help her pack up #3 son's "Man Lair" getting ready for the move. Their street of base housing is being remodeled (rebuilt or something) so everyone has to relocate. DIL went to the meetings and asked questions, but wasn't able to get acceptable answers (when and where would she be relocated), so she has found a great house for them to rent.

We are going to visit #2 son and dil in AR in August. Looking forward to seeing them! We haven't seen their house yet-- and they've lived there for a year and a half.

Guess I'd better go to something a little productive and do some more studying.

The Peppers Are Missing!

Today we went and bought paint for the guest room. We are switching the guest rooms in our house after bringing a bedroom set from Mike's folks-- it is just too big for the back bedroom. So this weekend, we will move everything out of the back bedroom and Mike will paint it, then we (please note the use of he ROYAL "we"-- I have to work this weekend) will move the the daybed into that room. The next project will be to repaint the front bedroom, then reassemble that room with the queen sized bed set.

After the trip to Home Depot, we stopped at El Dorado for some quick, cheap Mexican food. Then we went to Kroger-- whole boneless rib eyes are on sale for $4.88/lb- we picked one out and had the butcher cut it for us. When we checked out, the computer took a discount-- we got the rib eyes for $2.98/lb. We were wishing we'd gotten more, but it was too late to get the butcher to cut another one.

OK-- now to the main subject for this post. When we got home, I walked over to survey the crops--- AND----- The pepper plants had been eaten. I am so disappointed-- they are nothing but leafless stalks. We had at least 4 peppers about the size of walnuts to golf balls. The tomatoes are all still on the vines-- no signs of ripening, but they seem to be growing.

--- didn't make it to the gym Weds, but got there today. I went into work one of my "office days" at 0630- I stayed until 1230, then off to miniature club-- we had a short business meeting and then continued working on the Shaker furniture project. Today's project was a bed. Left the club meeting and went to the gym. Did some arm work-- bicep curls, military presses (I think that's what they are called) and triceps curls all while standing on the bosu ball. Then did some other arm exercises on the stability ball and crunches on the stability ball. Went out to the floor and abductor and abductor exercises (100# of weight), 50 standing crunches (50#) and then torso twist also with 50# of weight. Then I walked a little over 2 miles (I was watching Little People big World and had to see how it ended!).

Enough for now--- going to try to get back to sleep---- later all!

One Day Down

I managed to ONLY work 8 hours today--YEA!!! (OK, I actually had to be there 8 1/2 hours because of an automatic 30 minute meal deduction after 6 hours, but I only WORKED 8 hours).

I was at the gym by 4:30 and walked 3 miles in 54 minutes, I can tell I'm not where I was before all the respiratory mess started, but I'll get back there! Then I used the standing crunch machine thing with 50# of weight on it-- I did 4 sets of 25 crunches each. Weds I'll walk again and do some arm and balance work.

After the gym I ran into Kroger-- sweaty gym clothes and everything-- to pick up a few essentials-- there were a few specials in the deli so I got some Boar's Head meat to have for lunch. Tomorrow I'll fix a bowl of lettuce to have for salads the rest of the week. How boring is my life that I write about a trip to the grocery store!

Mike talked to #2 son today-- we are looking forward to seeing them in August.

I'll try to have a more interesting life soon! Later.....

A Brand New Week

Last night I got called in to work "on call"-- an extra shift to reach the staffing number-- I already had 44 hours on the clock for this week, so I was in OT the moment I clocked in. Not only OT, but I get $5/hr for being on call, plus evening and night differentials, plus $10/hr for "weekend differential" (it starts on Fri 7P shift), plus time and a half for OT. I was there until 1AM, so I should have a pretty decent check next week!

I am only scheduled for my "normal" 40 hours this week-- and that is all I am going to work! (Famous last words). Tomorrow I will get the miniature club newsletter out to the members-- we have a meeting on Thursday. Then I am hoping to spend some time in my studio-- probably plowing a path through the room, not necessarily getting any play time in. And I need to start studying for my next "Learning Opportunity" which is Advanced Cardiac Life Support on July 9th and 10th.

Monday I am working an 8 hour day shift-- it is payroll Monday, so we have to make sure everyone's time card is accurate and any extra amounts are properly entered. Pay days can be quite tense when "we" made a mistake and didn't get "their" pay right-- and it doesn't matter that "they" did not bother to clock in or out or write a note in the communication book so "we" would KNOW to correct "their" time cards. OK, I've had my moment-- I'm over it!

Tuesday I am staffing 7P shift.

Thursday I am meeting with the schedule committee to post shifts for casual staff and get an idea how much on call will be needed. Then I get to go to miniature club-- but I need to remember I will be acting secretary and take appropriate minutes. If I still need some more hours, I will go back in after the club meeting.

It is my holiday to work--- so I will staff Sat, Sun and Mon 7P.

So, I will be off Sunday, Wednesday (but will have to sleep in the morning), and Friday. My goal is to get to the gym Monday afternoon, Weds after I wake up (hopefully about 1 or so) and again on Friday-- I will walk and do arms on Monday, walk and/or bike on Wed and do legs and walk and/or bike on Fri and do some arms and core.

Off to finish reading my Sunday School lesson for the morning!

One More "Learning Opportunity" Down!

Today I finished yet another "learning opportunity" related to my job. I took a 2 day fetal monitoring class. I passed the test, so I will get my CEU's--- YEAH!!!! Now I have to start the pre-course work for Advanced Cardiac Life Support. After that class (scheduled for July 9&10), I will review the computer charting used in the Birth Center PACU (recovery room) and then orient in there to be a back up to the OR staff.

So far this week I have worked 32 hours. I still have a 12 hour shift tomorrow (Thursday) and 12 hours on call Friday night. This week has been really busy in L&D and all the on call nurses have gotten called in to staff. The paycheck will be nice, but I'm going to be totally worn out on Sat morning.

Mike went to see his Mom and Dad last weekend. I had to work, so I stayed home with the dogs.

The tomatoes are growing and we're starting to see some green peppers. The banana peppers have a lot of new growth on them, but no sign of any peppers yet. The hostas in the front yard have almost all been eaten-- we're guessing the deer are feeling well fed!

Talked to AR kids over the weekend. We are planning to go out there in August for a week, Mike just has to get his vacation time finalized with his boss (my time off is already on the schedule).

VA dil found out they would have to move before #3 son returns from Iraq. She couldn't get anything concrete from the housing people (where or when they would be moved and for how long) but she has found a cute house off base for them to rent. It is bigger than their base housing! We're looking forward to seeing the house-- she has posted pictures on her blog and it looks really nice! She is moving in mid-July.

Hoping things will calm down around here so I can get back to the gym 3 days a week-- have only been managing 2 days lately-- and I can really tell it!

Off to study!

More 'Maters and Stuff

The "farm" is really starting to take off-- there are at least 6 tomatoes on the vines and lots more flowers! I think the green peppers are starting to "set" (I think that's what you call it). The morning glories are starting to climb the trellis too. There seems to be some new growth on the banana pepper plants, but no sign of any peppers. Next time I want to use basil I can go out and cut some, and the parsley is coming along too.

Mike is in Charlotte tonight-- met his boss there this AM and will be home sometime tomorrow evening (probably after I have to leave for work).

My treadmill studying paid off-- I passed the arrhythmia test. Now I have to start on the precourse work for ACLS. BUT-- next week I have a 2 day fetal monitoring class (yearly competency requirement). I was on call for 6 hours tonight, but didn't get called in-- have to work tomorrow and then Sat and Sun.

Went to the gym today-- did 49 minutes on the treadmill, just over 2.5 miles and then did some weights. I could tell my equilibrium is still off from all this sinus stuff I've had going on-- I had trouble standing on the Bosu ball doing and doing curls and presses (something I've been doing with no trouble for months). Also did some core work.

Mike got a call from his Mom today-- his Dad is in the hospital again-- they got a call from the MD office telling them to take him in to be admitted. I don't have all the details, but it is related to kidney function-- hopefully will get more details tomorrow. His Dad was also diagnosed with gout earlier this week, so don't know if it is all connected or not. Mike will be going to see them this weekend.

VA dil has found a great house for them to move to-- their base housing is being demolished and the options of what is available in base housing is pretty yucky. She posted some pictures on her blog-- can't wait to see it in person!

#2 son got a call from his Sgt about a full time guard job-- he has put together a package (an application) for the position. It would be really great for this to work out for him.

Tomorrow is miniature club-- not sure what Shaker project the VP has planned for us--about the only piece of Shaker furniture we haven't made is a bed--HMMMMM-- I have to put a final finish on some of the pieces, but all my kits have been assembled! I am excited about the project for next year-- it will be challenging, but the result will be worth it!

That's it for now-- g'nite

What's New-----

Had a great weekend-- there were 7 of us Saturday for our UPS (Unfinished Projects on Saturday) group. We all worked on different projects, and were able to help one another along the way. The other ladies are all members of the Cary club and are busy preparing for next year's State Day. Since I'm not a member of that club, I just listen as they talk about the trials and tribulations that go along with being the host club. Lunch was great-even if I do say so myself! Mike and I ate the leftovers for dinner last night, lunch today and dinner again tonight.

Some how, I got volunteered (or as #2 son would say-voluntold) to speak in church this morning about the year long Bible study I was involved in. I panicked just a little when I got there and saw all the other speakers had written out what they were going to say-- and all I had brought was a picture of sons #2 & #3 in their uniforms. I spoke from my heart about being in small group study and the power of intercessory prayer- especially as it had impacted my family during our study time. When I walked up to the pulpit to speak I felt WAY out of my comfort zone, but as I spoke that feeling completely left me and I got lots of positive feedback after the service.

I spent this afternoon working in my studio and doing laundry. I got the last 2 Shaker furniture kits sanded, stained and put together. I made some adjustments to the work table kit and am happy with the results. After I get the spray finish done, I will take some pictures and post them.

I have a class at 8:30 in the morning-- more later!

We've Got a Tomato!

We went out to look at the "farm" this evening and found a tomato growing on one of the plants!! There are quite a few other flowers on the plants growing in containers, but of the 6 plants that were in the ground, we are down to only one left--- looks like they've been eaten from underground. The banana pepper plants look like they turned into deer food, but the bell pepper plants have itty bitty peppers starting to grow! The basil is coming up nicely (started from seeds I found in the $1 bin at Target). The parsley (also from Target) is a little behind.

Gotta go start getting things ready for the weekend!

Another Week-- Another Cold

Friday we went to visit #1 son and wife in Myrtle Beach. With some of their friends they have formed The Atlantic Theater Company. Friday was the final performance of "The Complete History of America--Abridged". #1 son was one of the three actors and dil directed the show. We laughed so hard through the entire play! There was slap stick comedy, vaudeville, innuendo, play on words-- just about any kind of comedy you can think of-- and then some. We are looking forward to seeing more of the company's productions in the future!

My sister and her husband came from Atlanta for the weekend, too. Saturday morning, we headed to one of the local flea markets. Got a few things-- 2 spatulas, a tart pan, 2 pairs of sandals and a ball for Mdx. After the flea market we met up with #1 son and dil at Barefoot Landing. We looked in some of the stores, had lunch at Joe's, then dil and I visited the winery there. We tasted 7 different wines each- I like dry, she goes for more of the sweet ones-- and then tasted a wine slushy. That's right-- frozen wine! Talk about brain freeze!! It was fun.
We stopped at one of the outlet malls to visit Le Gourmet Chef then back to their house. We sent the guys out to get stuff for pizza and then spent the evening (until about 1AM) around the kitchen table talking and stuff. (That's all I'm going to say about that).

I started feeling stuffy Saturday, but was completely congested when I woke up on Sunday. We went out to look for a dresser-- didn't find anything-- and then headed back to Raleigh. I spent most of the trip wrapped up in a blanket and went to bed almost as soon as we got home. I've been of work the last 2 nights no voice, constant coughing and sneezing don't go over well in the hospital. I have absolutely no energy-- just walking up the steps makes me want to lie down. We had a really good time, just hate that I was sick part of the time.

This weekend I am having a play date with some friends here. I'm planning to make an Indian Chicken salad. I made the salad last year and everyone liked it. I can mostly be made the day before so I won't be in the kitchen all morning-- I like that. For dessert I found a recipe for Lemonade pie- and I'll probably make some brownies too.

Off to bed for now-- want to watch the Steven Colbert show tonight-- #3 son was in the audience in Iraq for the filming yesterday.

Oh-- Happy Anniversary to the Myrtle Beach kids! I forgot to get you a card-- sorry.

What's Happening?

It's only Tuesday, but I feel like I should be done for the week. My manager offered me a learning opportunity-- to become ACLS certified (advanced cardiac life support-- CPR super sized!). The first part of the process is a 4 part class about reading the ECG (or EKG) strips, today was the second class-- I walked out of the room numb. Thank goodness we have 2 weeks to do the homework-- it's going to take me that long to sort all the different strips out.

My plan was to go to the gym after work today, but I decided to treat myself to a pedicure instead. I left the nail salon very relaxed after a hot rock leg and foot massage and my toes are "Malaga wine".

My Bible study group got together tonight for a wrap-up dinner. We met at a local restaurant and had a small room to ourselves. We all agreed we missed meeting weekly and spent the evening catching up with each other. I am always amazed at how a group of random people can grow to know one another and become a support system for one another. This has definitely been a year of spiritual and personal growth for me, and I thank each member of the group for all they have given me.

We spent last weekend caring for Mdx while her mother rode 150 miles for MS. We had a great time with her, she is really growing up. She sits at her own table to eat and takes her plate to the sink, then wipes the table when she is finished.

Mdx and I took a walk Sat morning and found a yard sale-- I scored her a pair of Sketcher's and a pair of Mary Jane's for $1 each! I figured we went about a mile-- me walking, her in the stroller.

After lunch and a nap (for both of us!) I gave her the art apron I made. She looked really cute with it on.
Please, no comments on the hair do, remember, Grandma only had boys!

We took a walk and played with bubbles.

Sunday we played in the yard and had more bubbles. Mdx wore her new shoes!

Amos and Auggie really liked being able to run free in the fenced yard- but they sure were tired! Poor Macy had to share her bed them.

That's probably more than enough for now, hope you enjoyed the pictures! We are off to Myrtle Beach on Friday to see a play starring #1 son (no matter what his role is, he'll be the star to me!)and directed by his wife. Later......

Catching Up

Not much exciting around here--- worked 40 hours and was on call another 12 this week. I'm on call tonight from 7-11-- really hoping I DON'T get called in! I'll be working 12 hours tomorrow night (Mon) then back Tues afternoon for an 8 hour "day" (I'm covering for another nurse from 7-9p so she can go to her daughter's recorder "concert"). I'm working Wed during the day (8hrs) and the 7p on Thursday night.

Mike will be with the Pres of the company this week. They are playing in some golf benefit on Thursday. He went to the driving range yesterday and will go again tomorrow.

Friday we are going to VA to take care of Mdx! Mommy is riding in the MS 150 Ocean to Bay Ride 2009 and since Daddy is in Iraq, somebody has to tend the babe! Can't wait to see her and give her the art apron I made.

Went to the gym today---- walked 4 miles in 75 minutes with the incline from 2-8%. Then did some pull-ups and chin-ups, some arms and a little core work.

Gonna go get the laundry started and fix a bowl of salad for the week-- later!

Monday, May 18, 2009

Monday, Monday

We had a great visit with Mike's folks this weekend--- Mike did chicken, potatoes onions and zucchini on the grill Friday night. They had a garage sale Sat morning-- as usual, I wasn't much help-- I woke up about 1:30 (am) with a splitting headache. I was up until 4 or so and finally got back to sleep-- I didn't wake up until 11! I had someone working for me 11-7 on Sat, but was still scheduled 7-11. I got to flex down! And we went to PI for dinner. YUM!!!!

Sunday morning we went to church then helped set up for WIHN. It is a program to help people get back on their feet. All participants must be working or seeking employment. They spend the night at local churches and the days at work or the center which has counseling, computer access, wahers and dryers, housing assistance, there are other services available, but I don't know what they all are. Mike and his Dad went to get the van and trailer from the last host church-- the trailer has the fold up beds in it. I went up to the attic and helped bring down supplies-- lamps, alarm clocks, night lights, toiletries, toys- that kind of thing. After Sunday School was over, we moved the chairs out of the rooms and got the rooms set up.

After a brunch of sausage gravy and a nap, we went to Ollie's. It's kind oflike a Big Lots Store-- you never know what might be there. We got an umbrella for the table on the big deck, and a couple of books. I could have spent the whole afternoon in the book section.

We had pork tenderloin for dinner with a salad and potatoes.

Today it was back to work and then to the gym. I walked and rode then did some of the arm and upper back I did last week with Gail. Speaking of Gail, I'm meeting her at 8 tomorrow morning. I'm sure she'll have some fun planned!

The dryer is calling-- later!

Notice a Change?

Just want to point out a slight change I made here on the blog---- the clock for Afghanistan time is GONE--- that's right-- I don't need to know what time it is there anymore!!!!

#2 son is now home safe and sound in Little Rock---

He got home about noon today-- surprising his dear wife! Apparently, his phone wasn't working and he didn't have change for the pay phone and didn't think about making a collect call to her cell phone--- when he got to the Little Rock airport he saw one of his TSA co-workers and asked for a ride home. Oh well, that's my boy!

I Knew It!

I knew I was in for a work out this morning-- but had no idea WHAT Gail had planned for me today. Well, we started with some "dumbbell swings"- literally swinging a 10# dumbbell from a squat position and twisting up to the left, back down and then to the right-- FUN! Then I tried to do some walking lunges, but my doggone right knee wouldn't let me-- first lunge I felt it pull again. So, we moved on-- right to the assisted pull-ups and chin-ups-- 3 sets of 10 with hands in 3 different positions- do the math-- that's a total of 90 reps. Even with the counter balance- it's still hard work. Next was some kind of triceps pull down, followed by bicep curls (3 sets of 15 each). Then some straight arm thing followed by some other thing she thought up-- you guessed it- 3 sets again. To end the hour Gail had me on the captain's chair to do leg lifts, straight knee lifts, then lifts to the left and the right-- you know the drill-- 3 sets of 10 each. My arms and core got a real work out today. I had warmed up on the bike (2 miles in 9.5 minutes) and 1/2 mile on the treadmill. I have definitely moved out of my comfort zone and now sweat freely in public-- not a pretty site, but, I'm doing it!

After a quick trip to Kroger -- hey-- it's right next to the gym, I'm not going home, showering and going right back to the same place-- I went home and showered then off to Mary's house to play-- and play we did! We worked on our wine cellar projects until 5:30 (1730 to you military folks).

That's all for now-- I wiped out tonight and have to be in a class tomorrow morning--later!

It's Not Fair

As much as I HATE that phrase--- IT'S NOT FAIR--- Mike has to go to Norfolk next week for work, spend the night and go to Richmond the next morning-- so he invited himself to stay with VA dil and Mdx, and I don't get to go-- stupid work, stupid dogs, stupid, stupid stupid. I hope you can hear me stomping my feet, slamming doors and sobbing, 'coz IT'S NOT FAIR-----

OK-- I'm over it (for now)-- not much else new around here--

Got a call from #3 son this morning-- he wanted to tell me that he is stationed at Camp Liberty- not what his original orders said, but that's where he is--- glad I didn't know that earlier!

Still waiting to hear from #2 son or AR dil about his return.

Went to the gym again today-- walked just over a mile, then biked for about a mile and got bored (all the bikes on the floor were taken, so I went into the "get away" room- the upright bikes in there don't have earphone hookups to the TVs), then did 20 minutes on the elliptical. I'm meeting my trainer at 0830-- I'm sure she will have some fun and games planned for me!

Talked to VA dil this evening. Her orchestra students had their end of year concert last night-she said they did an awesome job! I wonder if there will be any footage from the concert on her blog? I hope so! She and the students have worked really hard this school year-- nine of her students even made the all city orchestra!! Go kids-- I don't know you personally, but sure am proud of how far you've come this year!! Great work all of you!!

Tomorrow afternoon I am going to play--- you heard me--- PLAY-- I'm going over to my friend Mary's house and we are going to work on our wine cellars. Then I will come home and finish getting things ready for our weekend visitors and for the first Thursday since August-- I will NOT be going to Bible study. I think it will feel strange to be home on Thursday evening and I will miss the fellowship of the group.

Going to go gather some things to take on my playdate tomorrow-- later!

The Craziness Continues

So, how long can this respiratory stuff last? It's been 12 days and I'm still honking and coughing. Finally went back to the gym on Saturday afternoon and again today.

Spoke to all the boys over the weekend-- #3 (in Iraq) called on Sat-- he had to work Sun, #2 (in Afghanistan) called Sun afternoon while we were planting some tomato and pepper plants and #1 (in Myrtle Beach) called late Sun afternoon. It was good to hear from all of them!!

#2 son should be en route back to the States-- he has promised to call when he gets to American soil -- we are anxiously waiting his safe return.

#3 son has posted a link on his blog A Day in the Life to the news story of the soldier who killed 5 other servicemen on the base where he is stationed. He left me a voice mail saying he was fine, not to worry when I heard the news. Well, I probably wouldn't have given it a second thought since the location was listed as Camp Liberty and I knew that was not the name of the base he had given us. But, I was glad he called to report his safety.

VA dil has posted some more pictures of that beautiful baby girl! She is getting so big and smart! We'll be going to see her in 2 weeks-- I can't wait!

This weekend Mike is having one of his infamous garage sales--- his folks are coming to visit, too. After the garage sale, I am planning on treating mil and myself to pedicures! I'm wondering if anyone will be up to picking strawberries on Sun afternoon. I understand the pickin' is good right now and we haven't had any homemade jam for a long time.

Hopefully, we will have homegrown tomatoes and peppers this summer. We planted 2 types of tomatoes-- Early Girl and an heirloom variety, and sweet and hot peppers this weekend. We haven't had much luck in the past growing vegetables, but decided to give it another try.

Our yellow roses have been beautiful this spring. I deadheaded the bush Sat and hope it continues blooming. I even have some in a vase in the kitchen.

I have to work tomorrow-- an 8 hour day. Then I am going to the gym, will probably ride the bike and do some core work.

Thursday morning I am meeting with my trainer early, then will have a play date with some of my mini friends in the afternoon. We are planning to work on our wine cellar projects from State Day.

Heading off to bed for now-- will take some photos over the next few days to post some of our activities.

Until later........

Poor Poor Me

I spent all day Wed in a class (a good class, but still, I was confined), then I worked 8 hours during the day on Thurs, came home and went to Bible study, and then had to work Fri night -I did get to flex down at 1AM, but once I got home, I dozed off in the chair and woke up with a sore throat. SO, I ended up sleeping until early afternoon on Sat. We had dinner with some neighbors--ribs and brats, potatoes, salad, apple pie, fruit plate and appetizers! It was good, but I wasn't quite up to par. I came home and crashed- woke up about 7, but knew I was not going to get up and go to church, so I went back to sleep.

Got up about 10 feeling yucky, so I took a shower and sat in my recliner for a while. I knew I couldn't stay there all day (as much as I wanted to) because tomorrow is my day to bring treats to work for Nurse's Week-- for both shifts. So I washed my hands carefully and went about the business of baking chocolate chip squares-- I needed to make 2 batches, so I got out the pan I THOUGHT I had made a double batch in before and went merrily along my way-- mixed up the batter, smoothed in it the pan , put the pan in the preheated oven and set the timer. The timer went off at the appropriate time, I opened the oven door and was greeted by cookie dough pouring over the side of the pan and dripping all over the bottom of the oven, I was NOT very happy. The kitchen smelled like smoke from the dough burning on the lower oven element. So, after the proper amount of whining and such, Mike offered to go out and get me more supplies. Taking no chances this time, I opted for boxes of brownie mix and canned icing. So, now, the brownies are sitting on the counter, iced and ready to go in the morning.

OH-- yesterday the Terminex guy was here for our yearly inspection and told us we have/had something living under the house-- probably an oppossum--YUK-- I guess there are a lot of "deposits" under there-- so if you know a critter guy-- let us know so we can get this taken care of ASAP. Apparently, some of the "scents" I've been blaming on the dogs are apparently coming from under the house. One of our neighbors has a live trap we are rgoing to put out to try to trap the critter, then we'll need to find someone to clean out under the house, once again YUK.

Anyway, I'm drugged and off to bed-- hoping I don't get sent home from work tomorrow (you know all the flu stuff) and a little bummed that I didn't get anything done in my studio this weekend.

On a brighter note, I did chat (IM) with #3 son for a few minutes today. And I talked to AR dil briefly, (I think I scared her with my raspy voice today)- she has the date for #2 son's return from Afghanistan--he is to arrive in the states on the 14th-- and will get home a day or two later.

Look What I Did!

When I was Charlotte for State Day, I got some fabric to make Mdx a surprise-- well--here it is!

I can't wait to take it to her when we go to VA in a few weeks! I hope she likes it!

Went to the gym this morning-- thought I was meeting my trainer, but she wasn't there. I rode 5 miles and did some weights.

I'm heading back to the studio now --- who knows what I might come up with next!

I Should be Asleep!

This weekend I did something I haven't done in a LOOOOOONG time. I worked 3 12 hour nights in a row-- Fri, Sat and Sun. I came home Mon morning (it is technically Tues morning now) and got to bed about 9:30-- I slept until 3:30-- really wanted to get up earlier, but my body and mind were in a fight and the body won. I had had big plans for the afternoon--once again, nothing got done. At least I didn't spend the evening eating everything in sight as has been known to happen in similar situations.

I am meeting my trainer at 8 AM to do a reassessment before starting my session. I am hoping my measurements are better this time-- my weight is down a little, not as much as I would like, but while I try to be conscious of what I am eating, I'm not following any strict diet. I also have not been to the gym since last Wed. My knee is still bothering me some-- not nearly as much as last week, but it was swollen all 3 mornings when I got home from work this weekend. I slept with an icepack on it each day.

My gym plan for this week is: this morning at 8 with Gail, then Wed afternoon (I will be in a class at the hospital all day and will go to "decompress"). I'll take Thur and Fri off and then go again Sat after I wake up (working Fri night).

After the gym tomorrow, I need to make a trip to the bank-- I have a CD that matured today and I need to find a different vehichle for the money-- don't want it to roll over into the same program-- this is money received from the sale of a house my Mom owned, not a huge amont, but I've been able to use the interst to fund some of my miniature acquisitions. And I KNOW Mom would approve of me doing this with the money rather than something mundane like paying bills (which thankfully, it's not a necessity to use the money for). And the fact I am using the interest makes the money go even further.

Once that is done I WILL work in my studio in the afternoon. I'd like to get the Shaker wash stand project done (last club project) and possibly pull out the sewing machine for a while.

I also need to spend some quality time on my Bible study reading-- this is our next to last meeting and we are studying Revelation. Next week will be our last time together-I will miss the fellowship and support I have received. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the other members on a more personal level.

We are getting together with the neighborhood supper club group Sat evening. It's always fun to get together with them-haven't gotten my assignment yet.

Have had several chats with #3 son when we both happen to be online at the same time, it is good to here from him and he is so far updating his blog daily.

Since I need to have some energy early this morning-- I'm off to bed again and will hopefully get some deep sleep.

Later!
